A necktie accessory apart from imparting a stylish look to the outfit does a great job in holding the tie in place so you can eat and work without worrying about the tie getting in your way.

A necktie accessory apart from imparting a stylish look to the outfit does a great job in holding the tie in place so you can eat and work without worrying about the tie getting in your way. Whether you’re dressing for a job interview or to impress the audience at a social gathering, accessories will surely enhance the overall effect. Tie bar is one such accessory which is the significant element of every gentleman’s wardrobe.

TIE BARS

A tie bar, sometimes called a tie slide, is very similar in use to the tie clip. Instead of horizontally clipping it across your tie, a tie bar is slid across the middle part of the tie thus attaching the tie to the dress shirt that you’re wearing. Also, it’s slightly flatter than the clip unless it has a three-dimensional design embossed on it.

STYLES & FASHION

A tie bar is a perfect menswear accessory that do wonders in adding both style and function to your wardrobe. It’s a thin piece of metal that may be molded into different shapes. We’ve got a range of styles, ranging from the plain ones to some really creative ones and the choice is obviously a matter of personal preference. It’s best to choose a simple silver or gold tie bar if you want to play safe. The color of the metal should always match with the color of other accessories in your ensemble. It’s okay to use novelty designs if you feel they complement your outfit.

HOW TO WEAR A TIE BAR

To add the subtle, sophisticated elegance to your attire, the key is to wear the tie bar properly. If worn incorrectly, this exact piece of style can turn into a major Faux Pas that can ruin your entire ensemble. There are four basic tie bar rules that you need to remember thoroughly when wearing one. It’s of utmost importance to place the tie bar at the correct length, thus we’ve mentioned a few points that must be taken care of.

1- Firstly, the tie bar should be positioned between the third and fourth button of your dress shirt. Placing it at a slightly higher level would impart a modern look but be careful to not place it at the extremes of the necktie.

2- The tie bar should cover about three-quarters width of your tie. A little shorter is fine but it should never be wider than the necktie. This means you’d need different tie bars for neckties of different width. As a rule of thumb, tie bars having width of 1.75” to 2.25” are best for regular width ties while those having a width of 1” to 1.25” work well with narrow neckties.

2- Wear your tie bar in such a way that both the tail ends of the tie and the placket of the dress shirt are clipped together. Clipping just the two ends of the necktie simply defeats the purpose of a tie bar as your tie would keep swaying across your chest as you move.

4- Color coordination should always be perfect. Long gone are the days when just plain gold and silver colors were in fashion. Bold colored pieces are pretty in these days but they should be worn only when in coordination with the color of the outfit. White gold and silver tie bars still remains the icon of elegance but the color of the tie bar should always match with that of the belt buckle, watch and cufflinks.
