Velvet knot is a really cool twist of the Eldredge knot. Below is a step by step guide to help you learn how to tie a Velvet knot. The technique is super easy and all you need is a little patience and knowledge about the conventional tying process. So let’s get started!
Step-1 Drape the necktie around your collar such that the wide end hangs on your left side and the narrow end on the right side. This knot is tied using the narrow end thus it would be kept a few inches longer than the wide end.
Step-2 Pinch the wide end to create a dimple and cross it over to the right side from underneath the narrow end.
Step-3 Take the narrow end around the back of the wide end into the right region.
Step-4 Feed it up through the front of the collar loop and back down on the same side.
Step-5 Cross the narrow end from the back of the knot to the left side.
Step-6 Feed the narrow end one more time over the top of the collar loop and back down on the same side.
Step-7 Bring the narrow end over the center of the collar loop and bring it down from underneath the collar loop on the right side. This would create a loop on the left of the knot. For simplicity, we’d be referring to this loop as ‘Loop 1’ throughout this discussion.
Step-8 Feed the tip of the narrow end up through Loop 1 and then tuck it underneath the collar loop on the left side.
Step-9 Wrap the narrow end up and through the collar loop of the same side one more time and bring it back on the opposite side. This wrap would create a second loop on the left side of the knot, referred to as ‘Loop 2’. By the end of this step, your narrow end would lie in the right region with the seam facing outward.
Step-10 Take the tip of the narrow end and feed it up through Loop 2.
Step-11 Tuck the narrow end behind the collar loop and pull it down in the left region.
Step-12 Tuck the narrow end around the collar loop and pull down the collar to conceal the narrow end properly.
Step-13 Tug on the wide end to tighten the knot and position it in close proximity with the center of the collar.
Step-14 Adjust the layers of the knot as per your desire and smoothen out any visible wrinkles.
There you go! Isn’t it just beautiful? Velvet knot is one of the many aesthetic knots that can be worn in all sort of formal, casual and festive occasions.
